A total of €5,500 was donated by the committee to five local organisations including Friends of Sligo University Hospital, Hawks Well Theatre, Strand Celtic FC, North West Hospice and Sligo Leitrim District Club.
Chairperson of the Kingsbridge Sligo Community Fund Committee and CEO of Kingsbridge Private Hospital Sligo, Mark Towey said it was a great honour to play a part in helping new projects get off the ground and hopefully make a positive change to the local community
“We have been impressed and enlightened after reading through some of the applications. There are already some amazing activities going on in our community but to assist in enhancing them or play our part in helping to initiate a new project, is very worthwhile,” said Mark.
The money released will go towards several new projects including supplying new foldaway guest beds enabling family members to stay overnight in the North West Hospice; Nurturing children’s creative exploration at the Hawks Well Theatre via the development of new programmes and community workshops; Sponsorship of the Knocknarea 8 Mile Loop event to help create more funds for the Strand Celtic Football Club; Much needed ground development work at Sligo Leitrim DSL allowing them to host junior football matches for local schools and colleges and finally contribute to the purchase of two new trolley beds for emergency patients on behalf of Friends of Sligo University Hospital for the acute assessment unit.
“Whilst we are keen to encourage others to apply for funding which was raised as a result of our inaugural Shamrock Ball earlier this year, we also welcome those who can help us with additional fundraising activities, to keep our Community Fund topped up,” concluded Mark.
