Dr Szeplaki is a Consultant Electrophysiologist and joins us from the Heart and Vascular Centre, at Semmelweis University Hospital in Budapest, where he was a Consultant and senior lecturer. Semmelweis is one of Europe’s leading centres of excellence for Electrophysiology where they perform very high volumes of ablations, and devices. They are also very active in clinical research and Gabor has widely published, with over 40 papers in peer reviewed journals. Dr Szeplaki special interest focuses on the invasive treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, including complex ablations for atrial fibrillation or ventricular arrhythmias. Dr. Széplaki is a certified Invasive Cardiac Electrophysiologist accredited by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA).

We are delighted to announce that Mr Nicholas Hegarty has recently been granted admitting and operating privileges at Kingsbridge Private Hosptial Sligo. Mr Hegarty is an internationally trained urologist having trained in Ireland he graduated in University College Cork. He completed the Western Pre-fellowship Training Scheme in Surgery, working in Sligo General Hospital and University College Hospital Galway. He completed a PhD in University College Dublin. Following his training he spent 2 fellowship years in the world renowned Cleveland Clinic. He was appointed Consultant Urologist in Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospitals, London in 2006 and returned to Ireland in 2011 to take up a Consultant Urologist post in the Mater Private Hospital in Dublin. Services that will be provided at St Joseph’s Hospital include comprehensive outpatient evaluation of key urological symptoms and conditions including haematuria, renal colic and stone disease, inguinoscrotal pain and swellings, erectile dysfunction, UTI, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, BPH, elevated PSA and suspected prostate cancer. Treatments that will be available in Sligo include flexible & rigid cystoscopy, urethral stricture dilatation, ureteric stent insertion and removal, circumcision, intracavernosal injections, inguinal and scrotal surgery. More complex treatments and in-patient surgeries will be performed in Dublin and all cancers diagnosed will be referred for discussion at MDT meetings.

Mr McLaughlin qualified in 1983 and had postgraduate training in England. He worked in Derry, Omagh and Enniskillen, where he gained extensive experience in treating major trauma and in the management of critically ill patients. He started working as a consultant in 1993, and performed waiting list clearances in Sligo and several hospitals over the following years. All of his appointments in general surgery have had urology as a major component, and he specialises in day-case general and urological surgery. Dr. Lane entered the specialist register in Anaesthesia having completed Irish higher specialist training in Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care. Following on from this he completed a Fellowship in Chronic Pain in McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. While there he gained further training and experience in management of chronic pain conditions using interventional as well as medical techniques. Dr. Lane also worked in Buffalo, New York with Professor Romanth Waghmarae who specialises in advanced interventional pain management and neuro-modulation techniques.
